What is artificial grass?Artificial grass is a resilient, long-lasting alternative to grass. It was first utilised in the 1960s on sports venue grounds. Today’s turf rivals real grass in looks, with far less maintenance required. It is very versatile and can be installed almost anywhere. There are numerous artificial grass options available so that the final lawn meets client's specific preferences. We have various shades, heights and blades types available that mimic real grass resulting in a unique, tailored outdoor space.

What is the installation process? Before the grass can be installed, the chosen site is levelled and cleared of any vegetation. This often involves removing the topsoil using a turf cutter. The cleared ground is then treated with weedkiller to help prevent weeds in the future and a protective membrance applied. A layer of limestone chippings covers the membrane and is then compressed using a powered compaction plate and levelled to keep a smooth and flat lawn. The chosen artificial grass is then laid on top of the levelled limestone chippings and is cut to fit. The grass is fixed along the edges to prevent lifting. Artificial grass can be installed on hard surfaces such as concrete or slabs using an artificial grass glue. It is recommended to use an outdoor artificial grass underlay on such surfaces to provide cushioning. Once the installation is complete, any membrane and artificial grass waste is cleared away unless the customer would like to keep it. The grass is cleared of debris and the surrounding area left clean and tidy, ready for you to enjoy immediately!

MaintenanceArtificial grass is relatively low maintenance, but to keep it fresh and pristine for as long as possible, we suggest some tips and guidelines for aftercare. Over time, debris such as leaves, dirt and seeds can get into the grass pile which can lead to propagation and impede the drainage system. The debris can be effectively cleared using a brush, dry vacuum, leaf blower, artificial grass rake, etc. It is advisable to keep plants and bushes which overhang the grass trimmed back. To prevent weeds, a household water-based weed killer can be applied to the grass 2-3 times a year where needed. Using a stiff brush against the pile of the grass can also help maintain the shape of the material and prevent flattening. Stains can be removed with warm water mixed with a small amount of detergent or washing-up liquid.

Toddlers and pets in the sunLike patio slabs, the grass can get very hot on those scorching sunny days, so be cautious with children and animals and use appropriate footwear. To cool it down, the grass can be hosed with water. It could also be an opportunity to put up the summer parasol to provide some shade or to roll out a picnic blanket!
